Community Space & Training

Community Space

HERe NI’s dedicated community space is a comfortable and relaxed place for lesbian and bisexual women to meet, organise, research or just hang out and read.

The community space is YOUR space and we want to encourage you to use it to organise groups, events, discussions, classes or whatever else you would like to see happening.  Just get in touch with us for a chat.

Women are also welcome to use the space during office hours. Please ring in advance to make sure the space is available.

Training

One of the ways in which we support the improved well being of lesbian and bisexual women and our families is to provide training for staff who are working in service provision, whether that be in relation health, education, social welfare or any area that is relevant to our everyday lives.

HERe NI offers a facilitated Sexual Orientation Awareness Training package to non-LGBT groups, organisations, service providers and agencies. This training has been developed to support teams and workers in providing better services to clients and users who are same-sex attracted or identify as lesbian or bisexual.

To date we have facilitated training sessions for womens’ sector staff, health and education workers, school nurses, youth and support workers and many more.

If you would like further details on our training or to book a session, please contact tracey.mcdowell@hereni.org or telephone 028 9024 9452 and speak to Tracey.

What our trainees say:

“I would recommend this training to others as it is a great opportunity to open discussion.

“This training makes you conscious of prejudice and how people can stereotype. I would like to support this excellent service. There was excellent interaction from the facilitator.

“The training was very informative, giving me a better understanding of the issues. In the future, I will be more challenging of negative comments.
